Boston-area Cornellians, please join us as we welcome Susan H. Murphy ’73, Ph.D. ’94, Vice President for Student and Academic Services, as she speaks on Student Life at Cornell: Looking Back, Looking Forward. This will be Susan's final official visit to Boston as vice president before she retires from her current role, which she has held for 21 years.

All alumni in the Boston area are members of the Cornell Club of Boston and will be able to hear updates from the Cornell Club leadership and vote on annual changes to the Club's Board of Directors. 

We hope you will be able to join us for this special event and give Susan a warm thank-you for her years of incredible work at Cornell!

More about Susan Murphy

Susan H. Murphy has served Cornell University as Vice President for Student and Academic Services (SAS) since July 1994.  Under her direction are Athletics and Physical Education, Office of the Dean of Students, Gannett Health Services, SAS Finance and Administration (including Campus Life Enterprise Services), Public Service Center, Cornell Career Services and the Office of the University Registrar.

A 1973 graduate of Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences, Susan majored in History.  She subsequently completed master’s degrees at Stanford University and Montclair State College.  In 1994, she earned a Ph.D. in Educational Administration at Cornell.

Susan joined the Cornell staff in 1978 following work as a guidance counselor and head of the guidance department at Chatham Borough High School in Chatham, New Jersey.  For sixteen years she worked in Admissions and Financial Aid, including nine years as Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid.

In addition to her current responsibilities at Cornell, Susan is a member of the Policy Committee of the Council of Ivy Presidents.  She serves as an Emeritus Director of the United Way of Tompkins County and is a member of the Visiting Committee for the Dean of Student Life at MIT.  She also is a Trustee of Adelphi University and is a member of the Board of Directors for Acme United, Inc, a company listed on the NYSE.

Susan will retire as Vice President for Student and Academic Services at the end of this academic year.
