Location: The Ellison Center for the Arts, 64 St. George Street, Duxbury, MA 02331

Date/Time: Friday, April 23, 2010; 7:00 PM

Description: The Sherwoods of Cornell, Cornell University's alumni acapella singers are coming to The South Shore Conservatory for two shows April 23-24, 2010. The Sherwoods, renowned at Cornell from 1958 through 1974 started singing as alumni at Cornell's annual reunions, beginning in 1985. In 2010 The Sherwoods will mark their 27th consecutive Cornell Reunion appearance.

The Sherwoods concert repertoire includes ballads, and close-harmony arrangements, seasoned with original jokes, stories and clever song introductions. One of the group's baritones is Hingham native Ron Johnson, who is organizing the group's spring visit to The Conservatory's Hingham and Duxbury campuses.

The Sherwood's musical director Fred Kewley '65 is a music industry professional, managing top singer songwriters in Nashville. He is the group's key arranger, following in the footsteps of Duxbury native, arranger and Conservatory Board Member Frank Holden. Kewley explained his arranging style: "To me the Sherwood sound is always emotional. Using unusual harmonies and passionate dynamics to interpret the lyrics is always the goal, whether the song is a beautiful ballad or a funny gag. When the song is emotional we've succeeded as musicians."
