Dear Fellow Members of the Cornell Club of Boston, First and foremost, I wanted to thank you for joining one of the largest communities of Cornell alumni in the world. Those of us who volunteer and contribute our time and talents for the Club do so because we believe there is value to Cornell and to each of us individually in connecting the large alumni base here in greater Boston. Our efforts would be fruitless if you did not participate as you do. Thank you. Second, the 2007-2008 Cornell Club of Boston fiscal year saw a number of lasting and evolutionary changes initiated and accomplished. So, first I salute my predecessor, Jeff Lang '78, and the 2007-2008 Board of Directors for delivering a vibrant Club in a strong position to grow. Your new Board intends on sponsoring and/or promoting more than 75 Cornell related events, and Board officers and committee members will work tirelessly to achieve a number of longer lasting goals. Specifically, we are designing the platform to be all things Cornell in greater Boston. That means that no matter from which school you graduated, what organizations that might interest you, or who is sponsoring an event, as long as a Cornell-related event occurs in great Boston, you can find out all about it at the Cornell Club of Boston’s website, www.cornellclub.org. We are working in concert with both the University in Ithaca and directly with the Northeast Regional Office to coordinate marketing efforts and calendars. These efforts are paying off in the form of increased number and variety of events and more open relationships between the various Cornell alumni organizations throughout the Northeast to the benefit of all local alumni. We as a Club are particularly pleased to report that we have been able to achieve two milestones in relation to our scholarship efforts. Based on the deep generosity of Past President Jeff Lang '78, healthy membership numbers, and consistent diligence in th e management of Club funds, we have achieved full funding of all four CCOB sponsored scholarships. Those scholarships were initiated many years ago, but only recently has the Club fulfilled its original intent to bestow fully funded scholarships annually to four deserving students. You can be proud of your membership in the Club as in our own way, we are affirming and supporting the University's professed belief that it should attract and matriculate the best students in the world regardless of individual financial means. Lastly, your current Board represents more than 60 years of service to the Cornell Club of Boston. Please join me in extending a warm thanks to each of these individuals. Without the generous donation of their personal time—a scarce resource for each of us—the Cornell Club of Boston would not be. I also hope that you will consider joining us on one of the Board’s committees, or perhaps even consider serving on the Club’s Board of Directors itself. As you will find out, connecting with other local Cornellians is always great fun. We look forward to welcoming you to events throughout the year. Sincerely, Paul Hayre ‘91 CCoB President 2008-2010
