Technical Questions / Answsers on How the CCoB Web Site Works!
- What are the minimum hardware and software requirements for the website?
- Web site is compatible with most computers capable of surfing the Internet today. It is optimized for Internet Explorer 6.0 but earlier versions (4.0 or later) will also work. There are some minor inconsistencies with Netscape Navigator.
- 800 x 600 monitor resolution; 16 bit (high) color>
- Dial-up Internet access at 28.8 Kbps
- What are the recommended hardware and software requirements for the web site
- Internet Explorer 6.0
- 1024 x 768 monitor resolution (or better); 32 bit (true) color
- Broadband Internet connection
- Are credit and debit card transactions transmitted to the e-Commerce Center secure?
- The Cornell Club of Boston e-Commerce Center is authorized to use commercial-grade (3-DES 128 bit) encryption technology to protect your data.
- To verify if your browser supports this protocol:
- Go to the Menu Bar in your browser (above).
- Go to the Help menu --> About Internet Explorer
- Information box should say: Cipher Strength: 128 bit
- If cipher strength is only 40 bit, go to
www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/128bit/default.asp - Follow the on screen directions to install.
- What are "cookies" and why are they important? Why is my shopping cart is missing some items when I try to checkout?
- Cookies are small files put on your computer to permit the browser to pass information between web pages and to "remember" you the next time you visit a web site.
- The Cornell Club site uses cookies to move items you want to purchase from the CCOB webpage to the secure e-Commerce server page. This occurs on your PC, not over the Internet. Any financial information sent over the Internet is encrypted.
- If items are missing from your shopping cart, the browser is not accepting the cookies from the e-Commerce Server (CCOB Store).
- To ensure that your browser accepts these e-Commerce cookies, do the following:
- Go to the menu bar above -- File Edit ... Tools ... Window Help
- Tools menu--> Internet Options --> Privacy
- There are several levels of cookie handling permitted. Make sure the slide bar is set for Medium High or less.
- Click Apply
- Click OK
- Close the Browser. Then reopen the Browser to reinitialize.
- Shop 'til you drop!!
